A To-do List For Surf Fishing

Ever since man has evolved, surf fishing is already in existence. Through these years, it has evolved to becoming a hobby for some and a profession. One could be scared if the cast one is carrying is not perfect. However, not having the perfect cast is not a cause of concern.

Here are some cheat sheets on how to have a successful catch in surf fishing.

Here's the to-do list for pre-surf fishing:

  • It is important to find a good location to surf fish. Prepare your tools and do some leg work by doing a research if you have a fish in mind to catch.
  • Snacks should be packed to counter hunger pangs while waiting for fish to bite.
  • Surf fishing:  Moment of Truth
  • Stake your reel holder in the sand right above the water line.
  • The hook must be baited. The best round lure is a spoon.  It casts well into the wind and can be retrieved at different depths. Since fish have short memories, they don't have the ability to adapt from this form of fishing. For sharks or mackerel, it is advisable to use about a foot of steel leader.
  • Start wading out in the ocean with the rod. Wade until one reaches the crest of the first sandbar.
  • Aim the tip of the reel to the area where the bait is to land.
  • Lift the point of the rod up at about a 45 degree angle (Consider this your starting point.)
  • The rod should be swung over the shoulder parallel to the water.
  • Then fling the rod forward but release the line halfway through the motion.
  • Wade back and set the rod to its holder.
  • Relax and watch your line for the first bite This hobby might be a bit too costly. Just like other hobbies, it is important to invest and save for it. The returns however is worth the wait.
  • One should be at the right place or at the right time to have some measure of success in surf fishing. So why don’t you grab your tools and beach chair to relax in. Cast that rod and hope for a big catch. Time to do surf fishing!
